Gender by the numbers in America’s fastest-growing industries

In summer 2017, an internal memo was leaked from Google that decried the company’s diversity initiatives as unnecessary and worse. The author claimed that biological differences between genders could explain differences in the experiences of men versus women at Google and other tech giants. However, data has shown clearly that women in STEM fields suffer disproportionately from discrimination of all kinds in the workplace. Using information gathered by the Pew Research Center, I created data visualizations showing the gendered experiences of women employed in STEM fields, with a focus on computer jobs.
